Films of the L.A.Rebellion.
A historic moment in the history of Black Filmmaking, The L.A. Rebellion emerged from a group of student filmmakers attending UCLA in the late seventies. The L.A. Rebellion spawned brilliant films that still shine today as unique and powerful voices telling non-Hollywood stories that have largely been untold.

You can access one of the CHFS's favorite films of the L.A. Rebellion: the rambling, dreamlike "Ashes and Embers" - with its cool, jazzy score, early 80's L.A locale mixed with rural settings and sprawling style - this sometimes angry, funny & deeply personal film about a Black American Vietnam Veteran from director Haile Gerima, can be accessed at the link below:

CLASSES
Contemporary Black Horror/“Horror Noire” in American Film & Television.
The new wave of what’s been called “Horror Noire” by young American black filmmakers has served not only to explosively entertain but to once again reveal the horror behind the various masks worn to disguise American racism.
Any initial consideration must begin with Jordan Peele’s remarkable GET OUT - followed by HBO’s Lovecraft County, Peele’s remake of CANDYMAN, and more. The gift"Horror Noire" has given includes some of the most imaginative and searing social commentary to date, and set the bar immeasurably high for new film or television arts in any genre - period.
